ONLINE ATTENDED Q&A: A Scoping Review of Collection Development Practices and Policies within Academic Health Sciences Libraries
This session will be available on-demand at the start of the conference.
During this timeslot, the authors will be on the Online Conference Platform to answer text-based Q&A.

Collection Development (CD) is a cornerstone of library services. Technological advancements affect the efficacy of any library collection, but this is especially true for health information. Users of health resources require access to the latest scholarship. This scoping review examines how librarians manage collections within academic health sciences.

Scoping Review Contributors:
  • Lauren Tong, MLIS, MSHCI, NDTR, University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Little Rock
  • Amanda Pizzollo, Amherst College
  • Susan Steelman, University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Little Rock

ONLINE ATTENDED Q&A: Anticipating Needs: Proactive Preparation for Program Reaccreditation
This session will be available on-demand at the start of the conference.
During this timeslot, the authors will be on the Online Conference Platform to answer text-based Q&A.

Annually the library works with departments to prepare for reaccreditation. In the past we waited for programs to contact us with the information they needed, usually on a tight deadline. To improve our response, the library gathered accreditation requirements and created a schedule to plan information gathering and dissemination.

ONLINE ATTENDED Q&A: Efficient data preparation for ongoing collection review
This session will be available on-demand at the start of the conference.
During this timeslot, the authors will be on the Online Conference Platform to answer text-based Q&A.

Data preparation can monopolize project time and limit libraries' capacity for ongoing collection management programs. Hear how a mid-sized academic library improved data preparation efficiency for a print collection review cycle by developing a dashboard to collection, clean, and present data in Alma's Oracle Analytics and Data Visualization integrations.

Collection-centered data for ebook use assessment have varied descriptive metadata. COUNTER allows consistency across vendor platforms, but is limited to providing ISBNs. This session introduces a Python script to fill in Library of Congress classification data so that collection assessment by subject matter is possible.

As budgets shrank and database subscription costs grew, we became more strategic with subscription management. We developed a multifaceted approach to analyze collection usage, including charting usage over time, calculating cost per use, and tracking course integration. This data is packaged in an executive summary for leadership, including data-driven recommendations.
